That's right!! Hard to believe it, but our baby boy turned 6 months old last friday. We can't believe that 1/2 a year is already gone!! Whit came into the world weighing 5 pounds & 10 ounces, and was 19 inches long. Six months later he weighs 14 pounds & 6 ounces, and is 25.5 inches long. He rolls over from his tummy to his back like a pro, grabs anything within reach, and is close to sitting up by himself. He's blowing raspberries, and making all kinds of sounds. He's eating solid foods two meals a day & so far likes everything we've let him try (which is oatmeal, apples, pears, bananas, green peas & sweet potatos).
He went to the doctor for his six month well visit. Poor little Whit had a rough visit. He's got a few things that could be symptomatic of a thyroid problem, so the Dr. wanted to run some tests to rule that out, which required that he have blood drawn. The nurse had a very hard time finding a vein that would work & let's just say that I've never heard my child cry that loud or hard. Not ever. EVER. Then he had to have his routine immunizations. We got a good report, and left with a few things to work on. Our pediatrician asked us to work on sitting unassisted with him for a few minutes each day. Also we're to help him learn to hold his own bottle. He's not "behind" because he can't do these things, but they'll come sooner rather than later if we work with him on them. So those of you that know John, know that little Whit is getting in some sitting & bottle holding practice every day without fail!
Along with the other accomplishments mentioned above, our little boy is showing other signs that he's growing up. Recently he's starting crying when he wants attention. The daycare teachers have commented on it more than once over the last two weeks. I think it's partly due to him developing & becoming more aware of the reaction he gets when he cries, which is a big reaction since he rarely cries. However, I also think it's partly due to being around a lot of family lately where he's the center of attention for days at a time. Either way, our quiet, laid back baby is letting us all know from time to time that he has an opinion too!
Finally, my favorite thing to report... he said his first consonant sounds the day after he turned 6 mo. old. In the middle of his ooohs, aaahs, & uuuuhhhhhs (his normal babbling sounds), he said "Ma Ma". He totally didn't say it in relation to me, but John & I both heard it clearly. I've of course been obsessed with trying to get him to say it again, but no luck so far.
Here are some pictures from the past 6 months...
