Adjusting

A big hello & thank you to anyone actually reading this! If you're reading this (I'm guessing there are two of you), you are extremely loyal! I have gotten pretty neglectful of this blog & obviously have not followed through on my New Years resolution to take a picture every day (does anyone actually follow through with resolutions?). Things are finally settling down, so I'm hoping to post a bit more frequently again. No promises though.

Jack's been with us for 4 weeks now. He's one month old, and it has been a crazy-fast one month. Let's get the stats out of the way. At birth, he weighed 8 lbs 3 oz. Before we left the hospital, his weight had dropped to 7 lbs 1 oz. After 3 weeks, he finally caught back up to his birth weight, and now at 4 weeks, he weighs 9 lbs! At his 2 week check up, Jack was in the 40th % for weight and head circumference, and 90th % for height. For a comparison to his brother, Whit still weighed around 7 lbs when he was twice Jack's age & wasn't on the charts at all.

So far, Jack has blessed us by being a very laid back baby. He doesn't fuss too much, as long as he's full, and as long as someone is holding him close. This baby loves to be held. On the one hand, that's great & we try to accommodate him as much as we can. We know how fast it goes by, and tomorrow he'll be 2 and we'll be lucky if we get to hold him for more than 2 seconds at a time. On the other hand, it makes it extremely hard to get anything accomplished at home with no free hands. Other things Jack likes are eating, eating & eating. His dislikes are dirty diapers, laying on any flat surface, & getting in his car seat.

We're still adjusting to being a family of four. I'm definitely still adjusting to being a parent of a toddler & a newborn, but we're figuring it out day by day. Jack's needs are pretty basic & easy to fulfill. Keeping Whit out of the fireplace and cat litter while I tend to Jack's needs is another story. Every day that ends with no trips to the emergency room and no coloring on the walls is considered a success around here.

My two boys together. Trying to get Whit to stop long enough to take a picture and be gentle/careful around Jack all the same time is rare.

So this may be the only picture like this you ever see!!

My little Jack-bean.

My very big boy.
