Good Friends

Not having lived in the same city as our families in more than ten years, we've created a different sort of family in the cities in which we've lived. Though we are not related, our family of friends is no less important than those relatives that we are connected to by blood. This weekend we had a quiet weekend at home that reminded me how lucky we are to have this alternate family. Nothing out off the ordinary happened, but sometimes we are quietly reminded of our blessings!
I took Whit to school to eat lunch with his Daddy Friday for lunch & then Friday night we went to dinner with the dental school crew. It's hard to believe that four years is almost over & we won't see these guys on a regular basis. We will miss them tremendously after graduation!
Saturday we went to the funeral for the father of one of our best friends. This man was a Methodist preacher, so I was expecting a typical somber funeral. Instead, two of his fellow ministers gave eulogies. The first was a black preacher, who came really close to getting me & the rest of the white, Methodist congregation to shout "Amen". The second ended his eulogy by playing the old country song "Drop Kick Me Jesus through the Goal Post of Life". It was like no other funeral I've ever been to & John and I were reminded of how blessed we are to still have all of our parents here.
Sunday, the Merritt's daughter, Presley, was baptized, and we celebrated with their families.

Whit, playing at Presley's baptism brunch.

Libby decided to curl up in Whit's toy basket that he turned over. Fitting, since Libby is his favorite toy.

Whit loves his new riding toy! He hasn't figured out how to make it move, but he loves sitting on it!

The dental school crew.

At MUSC, visiting daddy
Whit & Presley gave each other a very sweet "kiss", but none of us had our cameras ready. When we tried to recreate it, neither of them were too into it.
